It is the bane of my existence.
I can not stand effing grocery shopping. It might just be the thing I most hate about adulting.
Thank gah for Walmart’s grocery pick up, though. Game changer for sure. But I still hate even getting on my computer to pick out all the crap we need! I use Walmart grocery pick up when I just can’t talk myself into physically going to the store. Usually once or twice a month.
Otherwise, I shop at a cheaper store, like Winco. Plus, I like Winco meats better than Walmarts meats. And I like how Winco has items you can get in bulk. Pour-your-own style.
I get my produce at the local farmers market, so that’s yet another store to go to. Booo!
I typically write out a meal plan for lunches and dinners at the start of every week and make my grocery list based off of exactly what I need for my planned meals. Saves me a ton of money and wandering aimlessly in the store, not knowing what to get and just throwing randomness in the cart that I, half the time, end up already having at home. It also saves the daily scrambling of what-do-I-make-for-dinner, and the ah-crap-I-forgot-to-take-out-the-meat-to-thaw at 5 pm.
But even that I can’t stand. I hate sitting down writing out the stupid meal plan! Clicking through Yummly.com or other recipe sites trying to find good, easy meals to make. For some reason, it takes me forever to complete. Like, a couple hours or more, because I’m usually juggling mom-obsessed kids at the same time, and lose my concentration constantly.
And I’m the worst. I will wait until we have no food basically at all before I shop for more. We have to eat even all of our reserve “rainy day” canned foods before I go shopping! You know the Old Mother Hubbard nursery rhyme? Yeah. That’s pretty much how my “cupboards” look before I’ll go get more food.
All because I loathe grocery shopping that much.
I’m seriously considering picking up another side job (besides Lyft, which I just started) just so I can pay for a personal assistant whose sole job would be to come up with lunch and dinner meals each week, do the grocery shopping for the items needed, and put all the groceries away at my house. Yep, I’d rather work a job just to pay someone to do my grocery shopping.
Any applicants? Haha!
